Virginia 6A Runner-Up Anna Redican Verbally Commits to Penn State
NEW COMMIT: Reston, Va. backstroker Anna Redican has announced her verbal commitment to Penn State and will suit up for the Nittany Lions as a member of the class of 2024.
Redican owns three Winter Juniors standards and swims year-round with Machine Aquatics. She most recently competed at Eastern Zones this past summer where she finished sixth in the 100m back and 12th in the 100m fly. Last winter, she recorded three top-12 finishes at the Potomac Valley SCY Championships before going on to final in the 100 back at NCSAs.
Also competing for South Lakes High School, Redican is a six-time Virginia 6A State Championship finalist. The NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed third in the 100 back and sixth in the 200 free as a junior after racing to second and tenth, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.
She told Swimming World:
“I’m beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Penn State University!!! Thank you to my incredible coaches and teammates throughout the years and to my family and friends for their love and support! I’m so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Penn State family! #WEARE”
Her best times include:
- 50 back – 26.36
- 100 back – 55.25
- 200 back – 2:00.27
- 100 fly – 57.07
- 500 free – 5:02.01
When she arrives in State College at the start of the 2020-21 season, Redican will add valuable depth to Penn State’s backstroke lineup. Although she’s just shy of scoring range at the Big Ten Championships, she has consistently made improvements each season with just under a year of club swimming still to go.
