Viktoria Zeynep Gunes Cracks Top 10 in 50 Breast Semis at 2015 FINA World Junior Championships

Turkey’s Viktoria Zeynep Gunes unleashed a sixth-ranked time in the women’s 50-meter breast semis at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships.

Gunes threw down a 30.55 in semifinal 2 to lead the way into the championship finale tomorrow.

That time vaulted her to sixth in the world rankings as she continues to climb the rankings in the event.

Sweden’s Sophie Hansson lead the rest of the field as Gunes looks to be a shoo-in for the gold.  Hansson qualified second in 31.32 with Great Britain’s Katie Matts claiming the third seed in 31.60.

USA’s Nikol Popov (31.72) and Kennedy Lohman (31.87) qualified fourth and fifth.

Australia’s Ella Bond (31.92), Japan’s Yukino Miyasaka (32.04) and Russia’s Maria Astashkina (32.26) also made the finale.
