After the Thursday night finals session at the SEC championships in College Station, Texas, Auburn’s Zach Apple and South Carolina’s Fynn Minuth each spoke to Swimming World to discuss their respective individual victories during the session.

Apple described his emotions at winning the SEC title in the 50 free, and he threw in a thank-you to Caeleb Dressel for opting out of the splash-and-dash. Apple explained how his confidence has risen since swimming at his first World Championships this summer, and he discussed how Auburn will bounce back after disqualifying their would-be victorious 200 free relay.

Minuth went through his race against teammate Akram Mahmoud in the 500 free final, and he discussed what it was like trying to hold off Mahmoud. He also discussed what it’s been like to see South Carolina’s distance group excel, how its members push each other in training and how his relationship with Gamecocks distance coach Mark Bernardino has evolved.
