Josh Prenot opened night one of the TYR Pro Swim Series in Mesa with a tough double. The Cal postgrad won the 200 breast in 2:11.30 not too long after taking second in the 400 IM (4:19.56).

The 2016 Olympian revealed that he’s in a tough training phase but said that it feels good to put in the hard work. He also said that working under tough conditions will make you a better athlete.

Fellow Cal postgrad and Olympian Ryan Murphy began the meet with a win in the men’s 200 back, finishing nearly two seconds ahead of the field in 1:56.51 after a strong back half.

Murphy said he’s focusing on doing things the right way and on race execution rather than times. He also discussed how he’s feeling confident with where he is in his training.
