(Video Interviews) Amanda Weir and Tom Shields Tune Up For Short Course Worlds
Amanda Weir and Tom Shields both entered the final of their respective 50 free Thursday night as the top seed. Weir picked up yet another National title, posting a 21.81 to win the race by four tenths of a second. Shields, meanwhile, decided to swim the final as butterfly, finishing sixth at 20.10 after swimming a majority of the race underwater.
After her race, Weir explained what has kept her going in the sport for so long and why she decided to compete at Nationals, even though she has another big meet coming up next week with the Short Course World Championships. She also revealed some of her goals for Windsor.
Shields, meanwhile, discussed why he decided to swim fly tonight and what he is most looking forward to about competing in Windsor next week. He also explained how difficult it was to get over what he considered a disappointing performance at the Olympics in Rio and how he hopes to improve moving forward.
