KNOXVILLE, Tennessee, December 7. SOUTH African Olympic champion Darian Townsend is posting lifetime bests at 29 years old at the USA Swimming nationals, and he talks about the new training philosophy that’s being used to help him do so in this video interview.

In place of the time he used to spend in the pool churning out the laps, Townsend is doing more work in the weight room. He’s also smarter about how he trains in the pool, and that has translated to lifetime bests in the 200 IM and 200 free so far in Knoxville.
