KNOXVILLE, Tennessee, December 6. AFTER the London Olympics, Natalie Coughlin made a conscious decision to focus solely on sprint freestyle in this new chapter of her professional competition career, but the urge to swim backstroke is often quite strong.

In this video interview, she talks about enjoying training freestyle in her elite squad at Berkeley that includes Nathan Adrian and Anthony Ervin. But attending meets such as the USA Swimming nationals and seeing people race backstroke often gets her thinking about returning to the stroke that brought her world records and multiple Olympic medals.

But, judging by the success she’s having in sprint freestyle, it’s a safe bet she’ll resist the urge.
