IRVINE, California, August 9. MICHAEL McBroom, known mostly for his distance freestyle prowess, decided to take the 400 freestyle out hard in the early stages and let the field catch him. In this video interview after winning the 400 free, he talked about executing that strategy and holding off Matt McLean in the final stretch to the finish.

He also talked about swimming the 800 freestyle and why he hopes it becomes an event for the men on the Olympic schedule.
