College athlete Maxime Rooney spoke to the media about his recent transfer to the University of Texas during a video interview on day one at the 2019 Phillips 66 U.S. National Championships.
In the video, Rooney discusses his prelims race in the 100 free and specific aspects of his race he was working on. Rooney wasted no time jumping into all aspects of life as a college athlete in Texas, taking classes over the summer while he was training.
Rooney, 21, began his collegiate career as a Florida Gator, but decided to transfer to Texas for his senior year.
He finished second overall in the men’s 100 free (47.61) on night one of competition and competed as a member of the Pleasanton Seahawks 4×100 free relay team, which finished seventh overall.
Rooney has several events left in National Championships, including the 200 free, 100 fly, and 200 IM. He also hinted that he might consider time-trialing some events.
