Kathleen Baker has returned to school at Cal after a breakout performance at the Olympic Trials, where she finished second in the 100 back, and then at the Olympic Games, where she was the top qualifier in the 100 back out of both prelims and semifinals on her way to a silver medal in the final. She later won gold as part of the women’s 400 medley relay.
At Golden Goggles, Baker was up for the Perseverance Award, and she discussed the circumstances she had to overcome that made her summer so special. She also explained how college swimming got her back into training quicker than she might otherwise have.
