Two days after arriving home from South Korea, Abbey Weitzeil has added a National Championships title to her name.
While she had been entered into the meet beforehand, the decision to swim or not was not made until the day before the meet began.
Weitzeil mentioned that she made the decision to enter the meet the day before the meet and had planned on swimming the prelims session only, but after feeling good during the preliminary session decided to give finals a shot too. It paid off and she won the women’s race by close to a full second second with a 53.18.
For Weitzeil, what mattered most was continuing to collect more chances to practice racing.
Weitzeil concluded the interview by explaining that she would be taking a short break to rest and relax, which would include a short trip up to Alaska to see her sister get married.
