Georgia’s Gunnar Bentz missed the first half of his senior season after breaking his collarbone in a scooter accident the day of the team’s first meet. Now fully healthy and back in competition, Bentz assessed his season and his SEC championships so far after taking seventh in the 400 IM final Friday evening.

Bentz explained how he dealt with the injury and how he attempted to still contribute to the team while out, and he discussed how he feels about his performances so far at the SEC meet, which have included a sixth-place finish in the 200 IM and seventh in the 400 IM. (Spoiler: He’s not upset about it.)

He also explained how, even though it’s his senior season, he still has an eye towards long course and the all-important U.S. long course national meet coming up this summer.
