MESA, Arizona, April 26. AFTER winning the 100 backstroke at the Arena Grand Prix in Mesa, Mexico’s Fernanda Gonzalez talked about her impressive performances in the 100 and 200 backstrokes.

Gonzalez celebrated her 24th birthday on Friday, the day she placed a surprising second in the 200 backstroke. She spoke about making the move to Gainesville to train under Gregg Troy and with Elizabeth Beisel. Though the workouts are notoriously tough, Gonzalez said she’s been working on her mental training and believing the Gator Swim Club mantra that “anything is possible.”
