After wrapping up their NCAA team title on Saturday night, Texas head coach Eddie Reese and junior Will Licon joined Swimming World to recap a hugely successful weekend. Reese discussed what made this team different from his other championship teams and evaluated his coaching performance, even admitting mistakes despite a 200-point team win. Licon, meanwhile, shared his thoughts on breaking not just Kevin Cordes’ American record in the 200 breast but also Brendan Hansen’s team records in both the 100 and 200 breast in the same race.

This is gold!!

I love the comment around six minutes – “the only magic is inside the swimmers”.

And what an insight into coaching – listen – really listen to his comments about how his team practices – how they swim times even faster than he wants them too – how they take responsibility and ownership for the success of their workouts.

Seriously – if there’s a better coach in any sport in the US – I’d be surprised.

Eddie is the John Wooden of the lanes: coach, mentor, leader, philosopher, creator of leaders, teacher, guide, he’s inspirational, motivational…he’s the complete package.

If Wooden is the “Wizard of Westwood” – Eddie is the “Titan of Texas”

Well done Eddie my friend – Well done Longhorns.
