IRVINE, California, August 7. BRUCE Gemmell visited the mixed zone at the USA Swimming nationals after watching Katie Ledecky win the 200 freestyle, and in this video interview he talks about training his star swimmer for a wide range of freestyle distances.

The key, he said, is pace work instead of longer swims. Repeats consisting of 50 or 100 meters are the key, Gemmell said, and the two continue to stick with what has worked for them.
