KNOXVILLE, Tennessee, December 7. JOAO De Lucca is on the road to defending his NCAA title in the 200-yard freestyle, and after winning the event at the USA Swimming nationals, he knows there is more he can do to get faster.

In this interview, De Lucca reflects on the strategy he used to pursue Simon Burnett’s U.S. Open record of 1:31.20, and why he needs to have a very fast opening 100 yards to be in position to post a fast time.
