After finishing 47th in the 50 free and being selected as the flag bearer for Armenia at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, sprinter Vahan Mkhitaryan has been named to the 2017 FINA World Championships Roster.

The national record holder in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyles, Mkhitaryan will compete in the 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly in Budapest. At the 2015 World Championships, he raced the 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly and placed 44th and 54th, respectively.

Teammate Vladimir Mamikonyan finished 92nd in the 100 freestyle in 2015. He will compete in this same event in Budapest.

The pair will be joined by Ani Poghosyan who will compete in 50m backstroke and freestyle events, and Elena Yesayan who will swim the 50 and 100 freestyle. Poghosvan swam the 200 free (59th) and 100 back (61st) in 2015.

The four will likely compete in the mixed 400 freestyle relay, as Mkhitaryan, Mamikonyan, Poghosyan and Monika Vasilyan did in 2015.
