Utah vs. North Texas

DENTON, Texas, January 10. THE Utah Utes were too much for the Mean Green swimming & diving team to overcome in a 187.5-112.5 loss on Saturday. North Texas got solid performances in some events, but Utah came away with more victories overall. This marked the first-ever dual meet between the two schools.

The Utes totaled 12 wins in the 16 total events while the Mean Green had four.

North Texas freshman Rosa Gentile did have a solid day with two victories in both the 100 Butterfly (59.02) and 200 Butterfly (2:09.46).

Alicia Hale won the 200 Freestyle (1:55.41) and Erika Roach finished first in the 500 Freestyle (5:09.47). In the 500 Free, the Mean Green placed 1, 2, and 3 with Emily Floyd and Hillary Riedmann right behind Roach.

There were several second place finishes for the Mean Green squad including Emily Floyd in the 1000 Freestyle, Stephanie Bernier in the 100 Backstroke, Kristen Hempleman in the 100 Breaststroke, and Taryne Cantillo in the 100 Butterfly. The 200 Medley and 400 Freestyle Relay teams also found second place.

Three divers competed for North Texas in the one and three meter. Delia Covo finished second in the three meter with a score of 245.35 and she placed third in the one meter totaling 224.95 points. Lauren Hudson and Kim-Nelson Wulff finished fourth and sixth in the one meter. In the three meter, Hudson placed fifth and Nelson-Wulff took sixth.

The Mean Green's next and last home meet of the season will be on Wednesday, February 4 against metroplex rival TCU.
