Utah Senior State Swimming Championships

ST. GEORGE, Utah, February 26. HILLTOP Aquatic Swim Team (HAST) won by only 28.5 points, beating Cottonwood Heights Aquatics Team (CHAT) during the Utah State short-course yard swimming Championships.

The standouts for the weekend included Brianna Francis from Salt Lake County Devil Rays (SLCDR), Alexsa Savage and Nicollette Hansen of Waatch Front Fish Market (WFFM). Francis had three individual wins including the 200 IM (2:06.87), 200 breast (2:21.94) and 400 IM (4:28.59), which she won by more than 10 seconds. Savage swam to individual wins in the 100 back (58.60) and 100 free (53.01) while teammate Hansen took the 500 free (5:17.63) and 200 back (2:08.05). Both Savage and Hansen were members of WFFM's winning 200 free relay (1:41.12).

Teammate Winni Lau joined Savage and Hansen on the winning relay and picked up an individual win of her own in the 100 fly (57.87).

HAST had two relay wins including the 400 free relay (3:38.97) and 400 medley relay (4:04.97) with the help of 200 fly winner (2:06.91) Kimberly Welch.

Meghan O'Very and Mariah McGovern of CHAT had individual success winning the 100 breast (1:06.61) and 1650 free (18:29.72) respectively. O'Very and McGovern also helped CHAT swim to a win in the 200 medley relay (1:53.17).

Hailey Pabst from Cache Valley Marlins was another multiple winner, winning the 200 free (1:57.75) and 50 free (24.84).

Matt Okelberry from HAST had a total of four wins including one individual and three relays. Okelberry won the 200 back (1:53.89) and helped HAST win the 200 free relay (1:27.49), 400 free relay (3:11.82) and 400 medley relay (3:37.19). 100 free winner (46.41), Greg Greiner, joined Okelberry on HAST's winning relays.

CHAT also had relay success winning the 200 medley relay (1:39.55). Members of CHAT's winning relay, Long Gutierrez and Robert Miner also had individual wins. Gutierrez won the 200 fly (1:51.64), dropping more than eleven seconds from his prelim swim and Miner won the 1650 free (16:49.32). Trent Evans was another individual winner for CHAT, winning 500 free (4:54.71).

Other event winners include Jorge Azevedo, Brian Moore, Dustin Perkins, Scott Sorensen and Jake Taylor. Azevedo swam to first in three events, including the 100 back (50.29), 50 free (21.01), and 100 fly (48.67). Moore from the Anthem Dolphins won the 200 free (1:45.84), Perkins from TSC won the 200 breast (2:10.96), Sorensen from WFFM won the 400 IM (4:13.74) and Taylor from Cache Valley Marins won both the 100 breast (59.32) and 200 IM (1:53.16).

HAST won the meet with 1351.5, narrowly beating CHAT who came in second with 1323 points. WWFM rounded out the top three with 810 points.
