USC Swims to Pair of Victories, Led by Graduate Transfer Calypso Sheridan

The USC men’s and women’s swimming teams both emerged victorious after defeating Pac-12 rival Washington State (women) and UC Santa Barbara (men) to open dual meet action for the Trojans on Friday (Oct. 29) at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center.

The Women of Troy outscored the cougars by 68 points while the men defeated the Gauchos by a margin of 87 points.

Freshman Marlene Kahler claimed a pair of wins for the women’s squad during the meet, taking first in the 500 (4:54.54) and 1000y free (10:05.44).

Trojan rookie Daniel Matheson (9:20.89) took the 1000y free for the men and was second in the 500y free (4:34.81) for USC.

Graduate transfer Calypso Sheridan posted two individual wins, taking both the 100y backstroke (55.08) and the 100y butterfly (54.19).

Senior Victor Johansson picked up two individual wins of his own, dominating both the 200y free (1:38.81) and 500y (4:29.07) freestyle. Fellow junior, Isabelle Odgers also secured two wins in the 200y breaststroke (2:11.22) and the 200y IM (1:59.55).

Other wins came from junior Harry Homans who won the 200y butterfly (1:47.70) and the 200y IM (1:49.23).

Freshman Vaggelis Makrygiannis dominated the 100y backstroke (47.99) and the 200y backstroke (1:46.05).

The Women of Troy won both relays, taking the 200y Medley relay (Jade Hannah, Odgers, Genevieve Sasseville, Mathilde Jean– 1:43.00) and 200y free relay (Marta Ciesla, Anicka Delgado, Calypso Sheridan, Kaitlyn Dobler – 1:31.44).

The USC men’s team won both of their relays, taking the 200y Medley (Makrygiannis, Koenigsperger, Miljenic, Selin – 1:28.58) and 400y free relay (Makrygiannis, Cruz Zuniga, Miljenic, Selin – 2:58.93) to round out the evening.

Tomorrow, the Trojans return to the pool for some Homecoming fun as USC hosts their annual Alumni Relays meet at 12 PM. Trojan greats John Naber, Ashley Brewer, Anika Apostalon, Bruce Furniss, Lenny Krayzelburg, Fred Uytengsu and many more will be in attendance for the reunion event.
