USC Swims Past Utah Behind Justina Kozan, Sprinters and Breaststrokers

USC swimming freshman Justina Kozan posted a trio of individual wins to highlight the Trojans 145-111 victory over Utah on Saturday, Oct. 29, in Salt Lake City.

Kozan, a U.S. National Junior team member, captured the 200y free (1:52.48), 200y butterfly (2:02.97) and 200y IM (2:03.91) for USC. In the 200y freestyle, Kozan led a Trojan sweep as sophomores Genevieve Sasseville (1:53.36) and Marlene Kahler (1:54.08) finished 2-3, respectively.

Trojan sprint specialists Anicka Delgado and Elise Garcia each posted an individual event win against the Utes, as Delgado claimed the 100y free (50.76) and Garcia captured the 50y free (23.45). Cal graduate transfer Garcia was also second in the 100y free (51.36).

Sophomore Olympian Marlene Kahler recorded two wins against the Utes, claiming both the 500y free (4:55.41) and 1000y free (10:10.39).

Other Trojan event winners were Hanna Henderson (100y back – 56.04), Isabelle Odgers (100y breast – 1:02.99) and Kaitlyn Dobler (200y breast – 2:14.12).

The Women of Troy swept the relays against Utah, with the Trojan 200y medley quartet of Arial Bernal, Dobler, Delgado and Garcia combining to post a 1:41.50. USC wrapped the meet with the fastest time in the 200y free relay as Dobler, Garcia, Henderson and Delgado teamed up to clock a 1:33.41.

Next week, the Trojans return home to host Arizona State (Nov. 4 – 1 PM) and Arizona (Nov. 5 – 11 AM) at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center. USC’s divers will be in action for the first time this season against the Arizona schools, while the men’s squad will officially kick off their dual season.
