USA Women’s Water Polo Tops Germany 17-3 To Win Group At FINA World League Super Final

CHANGSHU, China, May 31. THE U.S. Olympic Women's Water Polo Team dominated Germany in a 17-3 win to complete group play at the FINA World League Super Final with a perfect record. The team now advances to a quarterfinal match-up with Italy on Friday. Nine different players scored in the win for Team USA, led by three goals from Melissa Seidemann (Walnut Creek, CA/Stanford/Stanford). Tumua Anae (Newport Beach, CA/USC/SOCAL) did the job in net, turning aside seven shots.

Team USA was never challenged in this match leading 5-0 after the first period and 10-1 at halftime. In the third they expanded to a 13-2 lead after the third quarter and closed the match out by outscoring the Germans 4-1 in the final period. The United States went 2/5 on power plays while Germany was 0/1. Team USA missed their lone penalty shot while Germany did not attempt any.
