USA Water Polo is proud to announce the Men’s and Women’s National Team rosters for the 2019 World University Games. The two teams bring together some of the top college-aged talent in the country representing a variety of water polo programs. The athletes selected will represent Team USA at the 30th Summer Universiade this July 2-14 in Naples, Italy. A full match schedule and any broadcast information will be shared as soon as it is available.

Earlier this year the World University Games coaching staffs were announced for Team USA. The women’s staff is led by University of the Pacific Head Coach James Graham, alongside Felix Mercado (Brown) and Molly Cahill (Colorado WPC).

“I am excited to be taking such a talented and versatile group to the World University Games,” said Graham. “This team has an extremely aggressive style of play and it makes it so much fun to coach.”

The men’s staff is led by Harvard Westlake (CA) Head Coach Brian Flacks assisted by Matt Kubeck (LA Premier WPC) and Brett Lathrope (MIT). Linda Wright (Ventura College) will serve as team manager for both squads.

2004 Olympian Brett Ormsby had been previously announced as the head coach for the men’s squad. He will no longer be able to attend the World University Games following the ongoing recovery of an injury suffered this past winter.

“I am saddened that I will not have the opportunity to work with this group, there are a lot of talented players on the roster, including several potential future Olympians,” said Ormsby. “I am heartened by the fact that I am handing the reins over to Brian Flacks, one of the best coaches in the country, and he will do a great job.”

The USA Women claimed gold at the last World University Games in 2017 in Taipei, Taiwan and will look to repeat the feat. The USA Men are hoping to improve upon a 9th place finish two years ago.
