USA Swimming Winter Nationals: Missy Franklin Dominates 200 Back For Backstroke Sweep

ATLANTA, Georgia, December 3. WITH the 100 back victory last night, Colorado Stars' Missy Franklin put away a backstroke sweep with a strong time in the women's 200 back at the USA Swimming Winter Nationals.

Franklin threw down a 2:07.14 to win by nearly three seconds. Franklin owns the top time in the world with a 2:05.10 from Worlds this summer. Franklin's performance tonight stands as the fifth fastest in the world, giving her three of the top five as she also clocked a second-ranked 2:05.90 at Worlds.

Sinead Russell placed second in 2:09.84, a second back of her 14th-ranked 2:08.80 from Worlds, while Elizabeth Pelton claimed third in 2:09.89. Pelton's best time is a 16th-ranked 2:08.99 from the Pan American Games.

Hilary Caldwell (2:11.60), Elizabeth Beisel (2:12.09), Madison White (2:12.46), Barbara Jardin (2:12.52), Julia Smit (2:12.66), Jillian Vitarius (2:12.72) and Julia Wilkinson (2:13.72) also vied for the title.

Stephanie Proud topped the B final in 2:13.52, while Lauren Lavigna finished second in 2:13.54. Kaitlyn Jones (2:14.10), Brooklynn Snodgrass (2:14.35), Hali Flickinger (2:14.37), Bonnie Brandon (2:14.46), Hannah Ross (2:15.25), Kylie Stewart (2:15.67), Ashlee Linn (2:16.36) and Laure Manaudou (2:17.23) made up the rest of the B final.

Kendyl Stewart snared the C final win in 2:13.71, while Therese Svendsen took second in 2:14.19. Kate Fesenko (2:14.70), Maggie Meyer (2:15.04), Teresa Crippen (2:15.16), Victoria Mitchell (2:15.18), Ally Howe (2:16.05), Chatham Penrod (2:16.56), Heidi Hatteberg (2:17.55) and Dorina Szekeres (2:18.13) rounded out the bonus heat.
