USA Swimming Winter Nationals: Dana Vollmer Clinches 100 Fly Title

ATLANTA, Georgia, December 2. CALIFORNIA's Dana Vollmer put on a show in the women's 100 fly, winning the event in 58.04 in front of a stacked field at the USA Swimming Winter Nationals. Vollmer has the top time in the world this year with a sterling time of 56.47 from Worlds.

Alex Forrest pushed the pace early and wound up second with a 58.50 to move to 22nd in the world rankings. Kathleen Hersey earned third in 58.59 for 24th in the world rankings.

Christine Magnuson (59.04), Jasmine Tosky (59.43), Amanda Sims (59.49), Kendyl Stewart (59.52), Erika Erndl (59.58), Hannah Wilson (59.80) and Elaine Breeden (59.90) all cleared 1:00 to comprise the rest of the championship heat.

Kim Vandenberg produced the first sub-1:00 of the evening with a 59.96, while Elizabeth Pelton placed second in 1:00.57. Jane Trepp (1:00.62), Fabiola Molina (1:00.72), Katherine Mills (1:00.76), Chelsea Hendry (1:00.76), Olivia Barker (1:00.80) and Whitney Burnett (1:01.02) finished third through eighth. Notably, Ukrainian Olympian Kate Fesenko (previously Zubkova) is back to competitive swimming after giving birth to her and her husband Sergiy's first child. Fesenko, who won the 200 backstroke at the 2010 NCAA Division I Championships, finished ninth in 1:01.13. Lucy Worrall drew a disqualification.

Denisa Smolenova earned the C final win in 1:00.68. Kathryn Kinnear (1:00.84), Keren Siebner (1:00.86), Audrey Lacroix (1:00.94), Anne-Marie Botek (1:01.22), Janet Hu (1:01.28), Christina Bechtel (1:01.32), Andrea Georoff (1:01.36), Celina Li (1:02.06) and Mary Elizabeth King (1:02.08) also swam in the bonus heat.
