USA Swimming Selects Carol Capitani, Bob Bowman as Coaches for World Aquatics Championships

Head coaches of the U.S. swimming teams for the 2023 World Aquatics Championships (formerly FINA) have been selected, it was announced by USA Swimming on Friday. Carol Capitani will lead the women’s team and Bob Bowman will lead the men’s team. The long-course meters competition will take place July 23-30 in Fukuoka, Japan.

“Coach Capitani and Coach Bowman are proven leaders and teachers in our sport,” USA Swimming National Team Managing Director Lindsay Mintenko said. “We’re grateful for their commitment to U.S. Swimming and for their contributions to the members of our National Teams.”

Capitani, currently the women’s team head coach at Texas, served as the U.S. women’s head coach at the 2013 Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool and the 2017 World University Games. She was a U.S. Swimming assistant coach at the 2013 World University Games and 2022 FINA World Championships.

Bowman, currently the men’s and women’s head coach at Arizona State, was the USA Swimming men’s head coach at the 2007, 2009 and 2013 FINA World Championships. He was also on the U.S. staff for the previous five Olympic Games (2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020), including serving as men’s head coach in Rio.

The 2023 edition of the event marks the second time that Fukuoka has hosted the World Aquatics Championships after the city previously hosted the competition in 2001. This meet is the fourth senior-level international competition for the U.S. in the Paris 2024 quadrennial.
