USA Swimming Sectionals, Nashville: Doug Van Wie Wins Pair on Final Night

NASHVILLE, Tennessee, March 9. THE final session of swimming at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Nashville, Tenn., came to an end with Doug Van Wie of SwimMAC-Carolina walking away with two more titles.

In the final night of competition, Rachel Komisarz of Lakeside started the session with a winning 100 free time of 56.39. In the men's race, Van Wie earned the win in 51.09. Nicole Menzel then won the other end of the spectrum with a 1500 free time of 17:34.07.

Van Wie claimed his second title with a triumph in the men's 200 back with a time of 2:02.82, while Carly Smith took the women's 200 back in 2:18.33.

In the men's longer distance event, JP Arnold hit the wall in 15:48.37 in the men's 1500 free.

Margaret Hoelzer of MAC touched out Jace Howanitz of Pilot in the women's 200 IM, 2:20.50 to 2:20.75, while Tim Liebhold tied teammate Jeremy Knowles with matching 2:03.65s in the men's 200 IM.

In the relays, MAC's team of Hoelzer, Heather Holtom, Amber Leiker and Terra Wilson won the women's 400 medley in 4:20.12, while MAC's men's squad of Chris Knaute, Knowles, Mike Smit and Bennett Clark took the men's 400 medley in 3:55.38.
