USA Swimming Sectionals, Minneapolis: Olivia Scott, Alex Wold, Michael Holmes, Stacy Busack Set Meet Records on Final Night

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, July 25. THE last night of long course meter competition at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Minneapolis featured plenty of new meet records.

Academy Bullets' Olivia Scott touched out Kristen Steenvoorden, 2:19.36 to 2:19.43, in the women's 200 IM. The duo smashed the listed meet record of 2:21.06 set by Kate Hardt in 2004. Badger's Aja Van Hout (2:20.50) and Fox Valley's Kathleen Patterson (2:20.82) completed the top four, also under the previous mark.

Minnesota's Alex Wold won the men's 200 IM in 2:03.17. The readout bettered the listed meet record of 2:03.61 set by Dan Trupin in 2001. Wildcat's Alex Tyler placed second in 2:04.52, while Hawkeye's Paul Gordon took third in 2:06.99.

Minnesota's Lissa Tommerdahl snagged the women's 1500 free title in 16:56.80, while Van Hout finished second in 17:05.59. Minnesota's Christine Jennings wound up third in 17:14.69. Minnesota's Michael Holmes cleared his listed meet record in the men's 1500 free with a 15:41.06. His previous mark came with a 15:44.57 in 2007. Teammate Nicolas Zebley touched second in 16:11.90, while Peoria Area's Matthew Elliott finished third in 16:13.65.

In quicker action, Minnesota's Stacy Busack and Wisconsin's Kelsey Gergen both cleared Busack's listed meet record of 26.25 set during prelims of the women's 50 free. Busack clocked a 25.90 for the win, while Gergen touched in 26.15. Wildcat's Shelby Johnson completed the podium in 26.34. Minnesota's Curt Carlson claimed the men's 50 free in 22.77. Wildcat's Brian Kerr took second in 22.90 with Minnesota's Michael Richards finishing third in 22.91.
