USA Swimming Sectionals, Houston: First Night Complete

HOUSTON, Texas, July 16. THE first night of long course meter swimming came to a close at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Houston.

Sun Devil's Kathryn Haron earned the title in the women's 100 free with a 57.25. The Woodlands' Kelsey Leneave and Shaunna Purtell tied for second with matching 57.47s. Cypress Fairbanks' Neil Caskey topped the men's 100 free in 51.01. Lone Star's Dax Hill touched second in 51.53, while Lost Creek's Daniel Kempf took third in 51.71.

Nitro's Megan Onstott snatched the women's 100 breast title in 1:12.25. Sun Devil's Jordyn Green finished second in 1:12.42, while Blue Tide's Ashley Vance placed third in 1:12.78. Harris County's Karson Applin cruised in the men's 100 breast with a top time of 1:04.46. Houston's Diego Suarez touched second in 1:05.18, while Nitro's Ian Bishop finished third in 1:06.07.

Lost Creek's Mary Beck crushed the women's 200 back with a time of 2:12.11. Aggie's Megan Latone placed well behind with a second-place time of 2:17.76. Magnus' Erica Belcher completed the podium in 2:18.26. Longhorn's Scott Jostes held off Alamo's John Ariens, 2:05.42 to 2:05.78, for the men's 200 back title. Cypress Fairbanks' Cole Cragin finished third in 2:06.28.

Magnolia's Cammile Adams won the women's 800 free in 8:46.68, while The Woodlands' Gabby Maddalena took second in 8:48.13. The Woodlands also picked up third with Liz Nelson touching in 9:02.86. Loveland's Jacob Ores earned the men's 800 free crown in 8:22.57. William Norton finished second in 8:24.70, swimming unattached. Bernal's Gator's John Bailey rounded out the top three in 8:31.15.
