USA Swimming Sectionals, Gainesville: Gator Swim Club Sweeps Relay on Night One

GAINESVILLE, Florida, July 16. THE first evening of long course meter swimming at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Gainesville featured the hosts, Gator Swim Club, sweeping four relay titles.

West Florida's Chris Thompson won the women's 1500 free title in 16:53.71. Teammate Claire Thompson finished second in 16:54.25 with Sarasota's Corinne Showalter placing third in 16:54.26.

Corvallis' Logan Storie topped the men's 800 free in 8:08.11 to break the meet record time of 8:08.90 held by Jan Wolfgarten since 2005. Gator's William Silva finished second in 8:15.90 with Gator's Ricardo Monasterio placing third in 8:16.32.

In the 200 free relays, Gator's Jamie Bohunicky, Lily Ramirez, Hillary Petersen and Melania Costa Schmid won the women's title in 1:46.40. Gator's team of Roberto Gomez, Omar Pinzon, Brett Fraser and Shaune Fraser took the men's crown in 1:31.22.

The 200 medley relays also took place this evening. Gator's Ramirez, Angelina Ballatore, Bohunicky and Costa Schmid won in 1:59.53 among the women. Gator's Pinzon, Shaune Fraser, Brett Fraser and Gomez snatched the men's event in 1:43.18.
