USA Swimming Sectionals, Fort Lauderdale: Ryan Lochte, Peter Vanderkaay Win Multiple Titles

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, March 21. OVER the weekend, Fort Lauderdale hosted a USA Swimming Sectional. The meet took place in long course meters.

Davie Nadadores won the men's team title with 668 points, while Fort Lauderdale earned the women's team title with 433 points. Bluefish took second in both races with 510 points among the men and 355 points in the women's events.

Gator's Peter Vanderkaay cruised to victory in the men's 800 free with an 8:15.62. He followed with a 1:52.30 to win the men's 200 free for his second title. He cruised to his third crown with a 2:06.69 in the men's 200 IM before taking the men's 400 free in 3:58.78 later in the evening on Saturday.

Daytona Beach's Ryan Lochte turned in a 53.99 to win the men's 100 fly, then returned in the men's 100 back the following day with a triumphant 55.24. Lochte finished second to Vanderkaay in the men's 400 free with a 3:59.02. Lochte posted a 51.42 on the final day to win the men's 100 free for his third title.

South Florida's Lindsay McKnight, 16, claimed the women's 200 free in 2:03.61. She doubled up with a 2:18.74 to win the women's 200 IM. She snatched her third title on the final day with a 57.00 in the women's 100 free.

Mexico's Miyam Castaneda won the women's 1500 free in 16:36.37. She claimed her second title with a 4:15.43 in the women's 400 free. She completed the distance sweep with an 8:41.20 in the women's 800 free.

Mexico's Maria Gonzalez Ramirez touched first in the women's 100 back with a 1:02.62. She followed with a 2:15.34 to capture the women's 200 back.

Oakland's Tera Van Beilen posted a meet record in the women's 100 breast with a 1:09.61. That swim beat the 1:09.99 set by Anne Poleska back in 2008.

Macedonia's Mark Blazevski earned the men's 400 IM title in 4:30.55, while Davie Nadadores' Marcos Macedo garnered the men's 50 free title in 24.08. Meanwhile, Gator's William Silva snagged the men's 1500 free title in 15:43.79, while South Florida's Vlad Polyakov won the men's 100 breast in 1:01.99 with Lochte taking fourth in 1:05.24.
Julio Galofre won the men's 200 fly in 2:03.54, while Felipe Lima posted a 2:17.78 to win the men's 200 breast.

Fort Lauderdale's Chelsea Britt clocked a 1:02.38 for the women's 100 fly title, while Clearwater's Rebecca Mann, 13, captured the women's 400 IM in 4:50.85. South Florida's Arlene Semeco claimed the women's 50 free in 26.05, while Greece's Lysis Halkides turned in a 2:16.53 to win the women's 200 fly. South Florida's Emily Kopas, 14, earned the women's 200 breast title in 2:33.84.
