USA Swimming Sectionals, Fort Lauderdale: Florida’s Best Put on a Show

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, July 13. PLENTY of top-flight talent was on display during the second evening of racing at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Gator's Yanel Pinto (2:03.11) and Andreina Pinto (2:05.03) provided a 1-2 for their squad in the women's 200 free, while Swim Fort Lauderdale's Olivia Katcher placed third in 2:06.30. Gator followed up in the men's 200 free with another 1-2 as Shaune (1:52.30) and Brett (1:52.49) Fraser battled down the stretch. West Florida's Matt Thompson claimed third in 1:53.19.

SoFlo's Alia Atkinson dominated the women's 100 breast in 1:09.59, while PAQ's Julie Stupp finished second in 1:11.60. Davie Nadadores' Emily Kopas just missed second with a third-place effort of 1:11.84. Swim Fort Lauderdale's Ryan Rosenbaum snagged the men's 100 breast in 1:05.29. SoFlo's Alex Rodriguez took second in 1:05.85, while Metro's Diguan Pigot placed third in 1:06.02.

Sarah Bateman raced to victory in the women's 100 fly with a 1:01.10, while Metro's Isa Paez posted a 1:02.24 for second. Saint Andrew's Megan Moroney earned third-place honors in 1:02.72. Gator's Brett Fraser returned with a victorious 53.55 in the men's 100 fly after falling to his brother in the 200 free. Davie Nadadores' Yousef Alaskari took second in 55.70. Westminster's Garland Sullivan wound up third in 56.06.

Johanna Gustafsdottir crushed the field in the women's 400 IM with a 4:53.70, while Gator's Sarra Lajnef posted a 4:57.56 for second. Area Tallahassee's CeCe Williams placed third in 5:05.01. Gator's Dan Wallace picked up the men's 400 IM title in 4:27.72. Indiana's Nick Schwab placed second in 4:31.80, while DANA's Gabriel Pedrao took third in 4:35.69.

Area Tallahassee's Delaney Barnard, CeCe Williams, Lia Lombardi and Alex Merritt topped the women's 800 free relay in 8:31.35, while Davie Nadadores' Yousef Alaskari, Franco Lupoli, Matthew Nichols and Jordy Groters claimed the men's 800 free relay title in 7:52.90.
