USA Swimming Sectionals, College Park: Northeast’s Best Put on Show During Second Night

COLLEGE PARK, Maryland, March 14. THE second night of the USA Swimming Sectionals held in College Park featured some of the Northeast's best as big names such as Kate Ziegler, Felicia Lee and Pat Mellors were in action.

Women's Meet
Kate Ziegler of The Fish began the day with her second title of the meet when she clocked a 1:59.23 in the 200 free. Ashley Danner, 17, of Sea Devil followed with a triumph in the 100 breast when she beat out Tina Cantwell, 1:11.73 to 1:12.02.

Felicia Lee then won a 100 fly duel with North Baltimore teammate Courtney Kalisz, 1:00.74 to 1:02.18, before Kirsten Smith of the Marlins of Raleigh captured the 400 IM in 4:56.05. Smith's closest company was Joanna Thomas of GCIT Swimming, who finished in second with a 4:57.17.

NBAC's quartet of Natalie Beale, Jessie Krebs, Lee and Andi Staub then easily won the 800 free relay with a time of 8:29.08.

Men's Meet
Tom Koucheravy opened the session with a victory in the 200 free when he clocked a 1:54.13. Dan Velez of Marlins of Raleigh followed with a triumph in the 100 breast when he turned in a 1:03.71.

Daniel Ricketts of Brown University notched a victory of his own in the 100 fly when he touched in 55.60, while Pat Mellors recorded a commanding win in the 400 IM with a 4:16.83.

NBAC claimed its second relay title of the night when Michael Thomas, Jes Stephens, Richard Hills and Andrew Cosgarea hit the wall in 7:55.70 in the 800 free relay.
