USA Swimming Sectionals, Cleveland: Ohio State Has Strong Night; Sets Relay Meet Record

CLEVELAND, Ohio, July 22. THE second day of long course meter swimming at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Cleveland featured a meet record, and a strong day by Ohio State Swim Club.

Greater Toledo's Rachel Johnson won the women's 400 IM in 4:53.26, while Ohio State's Kristyn Fulcher (4:58.18) and Kelly Titus (5:01.91) finished second and third. Ohio State's Stephen Koch cleared Lake Erie's Michael Gaudiani, 4:33.30 to 4:33.70, for the men's 400 IM title. Dayton Raider Josh Quallen finished third in 4:35.70.

Ohio State's Shannon Draves topped the women's 100 fly in 1:01.10, while Redhawk's Rebekka Westrik finished second in 1:01.86. Cincinnati Marlin Sarah Tanner earned third in 1:02.00. Cardinal's Adam Madarassy hit the wall in 53.80 for the men's 100 fly title. Spartan's Jacob Jarzen (55.50) and Bryan Williams (55.78) placed second and third.

Ohio State's Megan Detro captured the women's 200 free in 2:03.57, while teammate Alexandra Norris placed second in 2:04.09. Greater Toledo's Carly Harter finished third in 2:04.28. Ohio State's Zachary Holmes won the men's 200 free in 1:53.95. Lake Erie's Ian Stewart-Bates touched second in 1:54.20, while Greater Toledo's Michael Disalle picked up third in 1:54.22.

In relay action, Ohio State's Megan Detro, Alyssa Swanson, Alexandra Norris and Shannon Draves clocked a 3:51.13 to win the women's 400 free relay and tie the meet record set by Club Wolverine back in 2009. Spartan's Jacob Jarzen, Josh Geschwendt, Bryan Williams and Mark Schramm claimed the men's 400 free relay in 3:32.51.
