USA Swimming Sectionals, Bakersfield: 800 Frees Open First Night of Swimming

BAKERSFIELD, California, July 16. THE first night of swimming at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Bakersfield featured the 800 freestyle events.

Class Aquatics Aislinn Smalling snatched the women's 800 free title in 9:01.18 to start the distance free night off. La Mirada Armada's Jessica Marsh, 15, finished second in 9:05.55, while Chelsea Chenault, 13, of Terrapins placed third in 9:06.79.

La Mirada Armada's John Mendoza clinched the other title on offer with an 8:15.44 in the men's 800 free. Mission Viejo's Nick Divan (8:16.94) and Deni Cullom (8:21.81) rounded out the top three.
