USA Swimming Grand Prix, Columbia: William Copeland Sets Pool, Meet Record

COLUMBIA, Missouri, February 16. THE final day of timed finals over long course meters came to a close at the USA Swimming Grand Prix held in Columbia. William Copeland of California joined a trio of men under the pool and meet record of the men's 50 fly.

Women's 50 fly
Loreen Whitfield sprinted away with the 50 fly title in a time of 28.38, while Fernanda Gonzalez Ramirez placed second in 29.46. Beth Eyanson completed the top three in 30.32.

Men's 50 fly
The final pool and meet record of the weekend fell during this holiday Monday as William Copeland charted a 24.55 for the win. Manuel Sotomayor Landecho took second in 25.20, while Tom Shield placed third in 25.42. All three efforts cleared the previous pool and meet record of 25.60 set by Peter Verhoef in 2007.

Women's 50 back
Fernanda Gonzalez Ramirez cracked into the win column with a time of 30.35. Emily Green wound up second in 30.90, while Emily Launer took third in 31.66.

Men's 50 back
After taking third in the sprint fly, Tom Shield returned with a gold medal in the sprint back when he hit the wall in 27.82. Ezequiel Trujillo Aviles touched second in 28.42, while Erwin Guillen Vega placed right behind in 28.44.

Women's 50 breast
Katherine Caldwell walked away with the title in front of a hometown crowd with a time of 33.56. Madison Burns finished second in 34.12, while Jimena Mayagoitia Ortiz placed third in 36.31.

Men's 50 breast
Edgar Crespo topped the men's sprint breast in 28.54, while Alejandro Jacobo Rodriguez snagged second in 29.47. Ivo Ivanov rounded out the podium in 30.57.

Women's 1500 free
In much longer competition, Chloe Sutton completed a strong meet with a win in the women's metric mile with a 16:42.38. Taylor O'Brien finished second in 17:22.50, while Sarah Howard touched third in 17:25.91.

Men's 800 free
Sergiy Fesenko grabbed the men's 800 free with a time of 8:23.40, while Charlie Rimkus took second in 8:27.06. Gerardo Banuelos Sandoval clinched third in 8:27.40.
