USA Swimming Cuts Time Trials From U.S. Olympic Trials

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, June 13. YESTERDAY, USA Swimming announced that it has cut time trials from the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials schedule due to an incredibly large pool of swimmers already qualified for the meet. The record size of the meet has already led to 10 lanes in prelims along with flyover starts.

The news came by way of an Olympic Trials message released by USA Swimming:

There are three very important items that we need to impart to you today:

1. Time Trials — Due to the incredibly large entry at the Trials (believed to be the largest senior level meet that we have ever held), Time Trials will not be held at the 2012 Olympic Trials. We apologize for letting you know this at such a late date, but the size of the meet is such that Time Trials are not in the best interest of the competition. Thank you sincerely for your understanding of this.

2. There was a discrepancy with the final date for which you had to sign up for dinners and breakfasts. I have been writing to you all along that the deadline was June 11 (yesterday). However, the brochure that the venue produced stated it was June 15. For this reason, we are going to keep the meal sign-up open until this Friday, June 15.

Please note that you must officially submit your meals and pay for your meals through the On-Line Meet Entry (OME) system on or before Friday, June 15 for the meals to be officially ordered. If you do not officially pay for your meals by the end of June 15, you will not be getting any meal tickets when you arrive in Omaha. If you have any questions, please contact Josh Fowler or me at jfowler@usaswimming.org or munger@usaswimming.org.

3. Accreditation — there are many teams that have not yet sent in their photos to the accreditation link (see below). If you arrive in Omaha and you HAVE taken care of the photos/accreditations, your time picking up credentials will be minimal (a matter of minutes). If you do NOT take care of the photos/accreditations prior to arriving, you risk spending a very long time in the accreditation room. PLEASE take care of this during the upcoming week! See the link immediately below to do the credential requests. Thank you.
