Ninety-six top male and female age-group swimmers were chosen from across the country to participate in USA Swimming’s 2019 National Select Camp, the national governing body announced today.

The camps, which are slated for October 10-13 for the girls and October 24-27 for the boys, will take place at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

During the four-day camps, the 48 male and 48 female athletes attending their respective camp, will experience the day-to-day routine of a National Team athlete and swim in the United States Olympic Committee’s state-of-the-art training facilities.

The campers will learn from top aquatic professionals about post-race recovery, psychological training skills, nutrition and stroke technique.

Monique Shelton of Beach Cities Swimming will lead the coaching staff of the girls’ National Select Camp, while Mike DeBoor of Lakeside Swim Team will serve as the head coach for the boys National Select Camp. Matt Davis (Hudson Explorer Aquatics), Nick Rice (Bluefish Swim Club), Mary Dowling (Nation’s Capital Swim Club), Jennifer Beech (Temecula Swim Club), Laura Pitman (Baylor Swim Club) and Amy Faulk (SwimMAC Carolina) round out the camp staff for the girls, while Avery Adams (South Carolina Swim Club), Laurel Hill (Scottsdale Aquatic Club), Tyler Kerns (City of Mobile Swim Association), Kathryn Violette (North Baltimore Aquatic Club), Tim Hochradel and Chris Pierson (Dynamo Swim Club) make up the camp staff for the boys.

In addition to the top-level coaching staff, Dr. Tiffany Jones of X-Factor Performance Consulting will speak to the girls’ camp. James Leath of Changing the Game Project will work with the boys’ camp. National Team member Zane Grothe will also be working with the boys’ camp. Grothe was also a participant in the camp in 2008.

Swimmers are selected from the SWIMS database using their top time during the 2018 qualifying period (September 1, 2018-August 31, 2019). The three fastest athletes in each event, ranging from age 14 to 16, are invited to the camp. In addition, the six highest-scoring IMX athletes ages 14-15 for females and ages 15-16 for males are also invited.
