USA Water Polo Teams Earn Victories on Day Two of FINA Intercontinental

Both the USA Water Polo men’s and women’s teams secured victories on the second day of competition at the 2018 FINA Intercontinental Tournament. Details from each match can be found below:

USA Men’s Match

Auckland, New Zealand – April 3 – The USA Men’s National Team picked up their second straight win at the FINA Intercontinental Tournament with an 18-3 win over Saudi Arabia.

Alex Roelse (Maarssen, Netherlands/UCLA/NYAC) and Ben Hallock (Westlake Village, CA/Stanford/LA Premier) scored four goals each in the win. Alex Wolf (Huntington Beach, CA/UCLA/Bruin) and Drew Holland (Orinda, CA/Stanford/Lamorinda) combined for nine saves in net.

Team USA put the match away early with a 7-1 lead after the first quarter and a 10-2 lead at halftime. They scored five unanswered goals in the third and then tacked on three more goals in the fourth to win by a 15 goal margin. Team USA went 6/7 on power plays and 0/1 on penalties with Saudi Arabia going 0/2 on power plays with no penalty shots attempts.

USA Women’s Match

Auckland, New Zealand – April 3 – The USA Women’s National Team bounced back from an opening match loss to Australia to defeat New Zealand ‘2’ 24-2. Five different players scored three goals to lead the scoring with Georgia Phillips posting four saves in net.

Team USA jumped out to a 5-0 lead and built their advantage to 11-1 at intermission. They added seven more goals in the third before tacking on six goals in the fourth to secure the win. Team USA went 5/5 on power plays with New Zealand doing 1/3. Neither side attempted a penalty shot.
