U.S. Women’s Water Polo Upset by Australia at 2018 FINA Intercontinental Tournament

USA Water Polo reports that the USA Women’s National Team fell to Australia 9-8 to open play at the FINA Intercontinental Tournament. Stephania Haralabidis scored three goals in the loss with Gabby Stone posting six saves. Team USA returns to action later today against New Zealand at 6pm EST/3pm PST. Live streaming is available by clicking here.

Team USA got off to good start grabbing a 3-1 lead after the first quarter. The second quarter was even with each team delivering two goals before Australia surged ahead in the third with a four goal outburst. The Aussies outscored Team USA 2-1 in the fourth quarter to take a one goal victory.

The United States went 7/13 on power plays and did not attempt a penalty while Australia went 3/6 on power plays and 1/2 on penalties. Melissa Seidemann drew seven exclusions in the match.
