US Open Friday Morning Times Compilation: Walsh Enters Top Ten World Rankings
With nine different sites from the 2020 Toyota US Open, USA Swimming has kindly combined all nine sites into one report to give fans a better understanding of comparing each swim done across the nation on Friday afternoon.
Out of the six events, Sarasota had two winners – each coming in the 400 free from Emma Weyant and Kieran Smith. Weyant improved her 2020 best to put herself 24th in the world for 2020 while Smith’s time is slower than his 3:48.5 season best from January where he remains 13th in the world this year.
San Antonio, Greensboro, Huntsville and Beaverton each had one winner on Friday as Gretchen Walsh had the top swim of the day, putting herself seventh in the world in the 50 free at 24.65. She is also the third fastest American this year in that event. Also from Huntsville, Ryan Held had the lead the majority of the day until Santo Condorelli won from Beaverton with a 22.27 as he now sits 27th in the world and fourth in Italy.
Madisyn Cox won the 200 IM from San Antonio with a 2:10.49, as she already sits third in the world this year with a 2:09.0. Her swim would still rank in the top ten this year. Chase Kalisz, the 2017 world champ in the 200 IM, won from Greensboro with a 1:59.72 as he is now fourth in the United States this year and 16th in the world rankings with that swim.
