Ursinus vs. McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Maryland, November 12. URSINUS won seven times to help defeat McDaniel 61-34 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's swimming action on Saturday.

Bryan Nuckles (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) won a pair of individual events to lead the Green Terror (1-4, 0-3 CC), touching first in the 50 (21.92 seconds) and 100 (49.59) freestyles.

Scott Paine led the Bears (2-2, 1-1 CC) with three wins on the afternoon. Paine was first in the 200 free (1:50.37), 500 free (5:00.51) and as the leadoff leg on the 400 free relay.

Paine joined with Joe Gershun, Benjamin Jumper and Alexander Pandelidis to win the relay in a time of 3:21.69.

Gershun added a win in the 1000 free (10:33.15) while Christopher Smith rounded out the individual winners with a time of 55.92 in the 100 butterfly.

Smith, Jacob Robinson, David Yazbeck and John Wieczorek opened the day with a win in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:44.94.

Steve Hoyt (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury), Jon Hartzel (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) and James Eu (Reston, Va./Hargrave Military Academy) notched individual wins for McDaniel. Hoyt was victorious in the 400 IM with a time of 4:30.68. Hartzel touched first in the 100 backstroke (56.85) while Eu won the 100 breaststroke (1:05.25).

In addition to Hoyt's ninth-best time in program history in the 400 IM, he was also second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.89.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday. Meet time is 1 p.m.

Ursinus broke a 44-all deadlock with its sixth victory of the day to defeat McDaniel 51-44 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's swimming action on Saturday.
Jessica Fry (St. Mary's, Ga./Camden County) won a pair of individual events to lead the Green Terror (1-4, 0-3 CC), who had three double winners on the afternoon.

Malena Lair Farrari led the Bears (2-2, 1-1 CC) with three wins of her own, including as the leadoff leg of the meet-clinching 400 free relay.

Lair Ferrari, Lisanna Foster-Bay, Anne Ludwig and Chelsea Kozior combined to swim a time of 3:46.59 to out-touch McDaniel by nearly eight seconds and win the meet.

For Ludwig and Kozior, it was their second wins of the day. Ludwig also touched first in the 100 free (55.88 seconds) and Kozior was first in the 200 free (2:03.88).

Lair Ferrari's individual wins came in the 1000 free (10:59.28) and 100 backstroke with a pool-record time of 1:00.11.

Fry touched first for the Green Terror in the 400 IM with a time of 4:51.10 and later in the 500 free with a time of 5:25.28.

Kerrie Vanscoy (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora), Rachel Walega (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon), Brittney Lenz (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and Emma Duesterhaus (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg Day) combined to stake McDaniel to an early lead with a victory in the 400 medley relay, combining for a time of 4:15.68.

Duesterhaus added an individual win in the 50 free with a time of 25.54 while Walega touched first int eh 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:10.62.

Fry also finished second in the 1000 free with a time of 11:14.58 in addition to her two wins. Duesterhaus was also second in the 100 free with a time of 56.20.

Lexie Jacobs (Forest Hill, Md./North Harford) made it a 1-2 finish in the 400 IM with a time of 4:59.71.

Vanscoy finished second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:03.64.

Abbie Schickler (Montgomery Village, Md./Covenant Life) was second in 200 freestyle with a time of 2:05.05.

McDaniel returns to action at home against St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday. Meet time is 1 p.m.
