UNLV vs. New Mexico

LAS VEGAS, Nevada, January 8. THE UNLV women’s swimming and diving team claimed its first win of the season on Friday afternoon with a 147-89 victory over New Mexico at the Henderson Multi-Generational Center. The win moved UNLV to 1-6, on the year, 1-3 in the MWC, while the Lobos dropped to 3-8, and 1-5 in league action.

The Rebels, who won a total of eight out of 13 events on the afternoon, were led by double-event winner Marley Prothero as she touched the wall first in both the 400 IM (4:29.67) and the 500 free (5:09.20). Other winners included Brittany Ozar in the 1000 free (10:30.71), Lisa Gillespie in the 200 free (1:55.81), Alex Bejinariu in the 200 fly (2:08.32), Anja Crawford in the 200 back (2:05.86) and Nakayla Chan in the 200 breast (2:27.70). UNLV’s 200 medley relay squad of Ana Dangalakova, Kelsey Clarke, Emma Gustafsson and Madison Rousell posted the other victory of the day, leading off the meet with a first-place time of 1:48.33.

UNLV returns to action on Friday, Jan. 15 as the men’s and women’s programs will host Wyoming at 1 pm, in what will be the grand re-opening of Buchanan Natatorium.
