NEW COMMIT: Carissa Armijo has elected to verbally commit to the University of Nevada- Las Vegas. Armijo is from Knoxville, Tennessee. She swims for Tennessee Aquatics and is a senior at Hardin Valley Academy.

Armijo is a two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American. Her best times include:

  • 200 Fly 1:59.83
  • 100 Fly 56.03
  • 200 IM 2:03.75
  • 400 IM 4:21.75
  • 500 Free 4:54.27
  • 200 Free 1:50.91

At the 2017 Tennessee High School state championship Armijo was third in the 200 IM and 500 free. Armijo continued to soar in long course this year, posting a 200 fly lifetime best of 2:16.99 to finish second at Futures and earn a Summer Juniors Cut. In the 400 IM she picked up a Futures bronze with a 4:56.52 and a U.S. Open cut.

Armijo should be a huge addition to the Rebels. Her best 200 fly time would have finished second in the 200 fly at last year’s Mountain West Championship. UNLV’s highest finishers were 15th and 16th and they were both seniors last year. In the 400 IM Armijo would have finished 11th last year. Freshman Ida Schutt (4:18.33) was fifth and will overlap with Armijo for two years. Armijo also would have been a 500 freestyle B finalist.

She told Swimming World,

“I am EXTREMELY excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim at UNLV. As soon as I stepped on campus it felt like home. Coach Ben, Coach Karissa and Coach Pat are doing great things and I am looking forward to being part of a rising program. I can’t wait to be a REBEL!”
