UNLV Overtakes New Mexico, 131-109

LAS VEGAS, Nevada, February 3. THE University of New Mexico women's swimming team faced the Rebels of UNLV today in Las Vegas, Nev. UNLV came out victorious 131-109. The Lobos close out regular season competition 6-6 overall, 2-5 in Mountain West Conference competition.

The top swimmer for Lobos was freshman Ashley Grisdale who captured the only first place finish for the Lobos. Grisdale came in first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.16) and swam to the second best time in the 400-yard individual medley (4:39.69).

Junior Tori Clarridge finished second in the 50-yard freestyle touching the wall in 24.84. Senior Jenna Syverson sealed another second place finish for the Lobos clocking in a final time of 53.78 in the 100-yard free. Clarridge finished close behind in 53.89. Sophomore Katrina McLoughlin had the second best time in the 200-yard breaststroke with 2:33.65. In the 100-yard butterfly senior Jen Hale came in second with a final time of 1:00.04 with teammate freshman Jennifer Patterson finishing right behind in 1:02.05.

The Lobos will now get ready for the MWC Championships. The championships are set for Feb. 21-24 in Oklahoma City, Okla. Last year the Lobos placed seventh with 285 points. Utah won the championships with 679.5 points. The Lobos brought home three medals, set one school record and twelve season best times.
