Sprinter Alayna Connor has verbally committed to swim for the University of Arizona beginning in the 2018-2019 season.

Connor is from Portland, Oregon where she is a junior at Sunset High School and trains with The Dolphins. The Sunset High School girls were the 2017 Oregon 6A state champions in February. At that meet Connor was runner up in both the 50 (23.10) and 100 (50.29) freestyle events. She was also a key relay piece. She anchored the second place 200 medley relay in a 22.42. The team won the 200 freestyle relay with a 22.76 anchor from Connor.

Her best SCY times are:

  • 50 Free 22.88
  • 100 Free 49.69
  • 200 Free 1:51.10
  • 100 Fly 56.01

At this year’s Pac12 Championships, Connor would have finished in the C final with her best 50 freestyle time. She also would have been at the top of the 100 freestyle C final. Sophomores Katrina Konopka, Annie Ochitwa and Ashley Sutherland, and freshman Taylor Nations all scored in the sprint freestyle events at the Conference level this year. All four of those swimmers will still be in Tuscon when Connor make the move south in over a year.
