UC Santa Barbara vs. Pacific

STOCKTON, California, January 27. THE UCSB swim teams collected a pair of dual meet wins on Friday afternoon at Pacific. The women captured a 153-109 win while the men defeated the Tigers, 158-100.

The men's 'A' 200 medley relay got the ball rolling for the Gauchos as Ryan Garcia, Kevin Ferguson, Wade Allen and Kevin Kuhn finished in 1:32.80, good for a comfortable first place finish.

UCSB then went on to sweep the 1000 freestyle with Andrea Ward capturing first in a time of 10:21.42 and Andrew Barmann winning in 9:35.01. Ward won her second individual event of the day in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.19 seconds.

Garrett Thompson continued his dominance in the 200 freestyle, touching first in a time of 1:39.19, which just beat out teammate Chris Peterson (1:39.92). The Gauchos had the top-four finishes in the event with Andrew Dossa (1:43.24) and Alexander Campbell (1:43.37) finishing in third and fourth, respectively.

Sophia Yamauchi won the women's 100 backstroke in 56.63 seconds, which was followed by Kevin Ferguson's win on the men's side in 51.89 seconds.

Katie Records proceeded to record the first of her two individual wins in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.76. She narrowly beat out Pacific's Mallory McGowan by .09 seconds. The freshman won the 200 breaststroke later in the meet in a time of 2:19.59.

In the 200 butterfly, Allie Knight (2:04.96) and Bob Hwang (1:54.41) collected consecutive Gaucho wins, as did Kendall Neely (23.84) and Ferguson (20.86) in the 50 free.

The Gaucho men dominated the 100 freestyle with Campbell (46.97), Lucas Norman (47.04) and Steven Ewoldt (47.50) sweeping first through third place, respectively.

Continuing to show her versatility, Yamauchi – who usually specializes in breaststroke and the individual medley – won the 500 free in a time of 5:00.73.

UCSB rounded out the individual events with a pair of victories in the 400 IM. Knight grabbed her second win of the day, touching the wall in 4:33.20 while Garcia won the men's event in 4:02.76.

The women's 'A' 200 free relay consisting of Neely, Sasza Lohrey, Yamauchi and Anne Peanasky concluded the meet with a victory, finishing in 1:35.89. The men's 'A' team followed suit with Allen, Thompson, Ferguson and Campbell touching the wall in 1:22.88.

With the wins, the UCSB men improve their record to 5-0 while the women are now 4-3 in duals.

The Gaucho women will face UC Davis tomorrow in a dual against their Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foe scheduled for an 11 a.m. start at the Aggies' Schaal Aquatics Center.
