U.S. Olympic Committee to Bump Up Medal Money

The United States Olympic Committee announced Tuesday evening that it will increase the payments awarded to Olympic and Paralympic medalists and also to World Championship medalists in Olympic sports over the next four years.

American Olympic gold medalists at the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang will receive a bonus of $37,500, up from $25,000 this year in Rio. The silver medal bonus will be worth $22,500 (up from $15,000) and bronze medalists $15,000 (previously $10,000).

Paralympic medalist will receive $7500 for gold, $5250 for silver and $3750 for bronze.

Additionally, USOC monetary awards for athletes who earn World Championship medals in non-Olympic years will be raised by as much as 25%.

This additional income is now tax-exempt, thanks to a bill that went through Congress earlier this year.

These are paid for by sponsors, association dues, and donations to foundations. Look no further in our Sport than the USA Swimming foundation to provide compensatory relief to our swimmers on the top stage.
