U.S. Nationals: Deep Field in Men’s 400 Free, Michael Andrew in 100 Breast on Day Four (Prelims Heat Sheets)

Six events are on the schedule for the fourth morning of prelims at the U.S. Nationals in Irvine, Calif., including the women’s and men’s 400 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke. The session begins at 9 a.m. PT (12 p.m. ET).

The session begins with the women’s 400 free, with Australia’s Maddy Gough as the top seed and 200 free runnerup Erin Gemmell set to swim next to her in the final heat. In the men’s 400 free, the first circle-seeded head includes 1500 free winner Will Gallant and Olympic finalist Jake Mitchell, while the final heat will feature 200 free winner Luke Hobson, Olympic bronze medalist Kieran Smith, 500-yard free NCAA runnerup Jake Magahey and distance Olympic champion Bobby Finke facing off.

USC’s Kaitlyn Dobler is the headliner in the women’s 100 breast. The NCAA champion in the 100-yard breast, Dobler narrowly missed qualifying for the World Championships in the event. Michael Andrew is expected to make his U.S. Nationals debut in the men’s 100 breast, with 200 breast winner Matt Fallon in his heat. 100-yard breast NCAA champion Max McHugh and Caspar Corbeau are the other main contenders.

Claire Curzan is listed on the heat sheet for the 100 back after scratching Thursday’s 100 fly final, and she will swim next to 200 back champion Isabelle Stadden in the final heat. Two Olympic finalists from 2021, Rhyan White and Kira Toussaint, are also entered in the race. Finally, 50 back world champion Justin Ress is the top seed in the men’s 100 back, and he will swim next to 200-yard back NCAA champion Destin Lasco. The 200 back national champion this week, Virginia’s Jack Aikins, is seeded second.
