U.S. Long Course Nationals: Kara Lynn Joyce Claims Splash-and-Dash Victory – Coverage Sponsored by TYR

IRVINE, California, August 5. FAST's Kara Lynn Joyce put together a dominant effort in the women's 50 free, clearing 25 seconds for the triumph at the U.S. Long Course Nationals.

Joyce put up a time of 24.86 on the scoreboard, jumping into fourth in the world. Only Therese Alshammar (24.27), Ranomi Kromowidjojo (24.40) and Fran Halsall (24.77) have been faster. Meanwhile, Dorothea Brandt (24.88) is the only other swimmer to break 25 this year.

California's Madison Kennedy finished second in the race with a 25.15 to take 12th in the world rankings, while SwimAtlanta's Amanda Weir picked up third-place honors in 25.29 for a top 20 ranking.

California's Dana Vollmer (25.32), Stanford's Samantha Woodward (25.32), Trojan's Jessica Hardy (25.44), Tucson Ford's Christine Magnuson (25.45) and Colorado Stars' Missy Franklin (25.46) comprised the rest of the big final. Hardy paid the price for a difficult double swimming just after competing in the 100 breast, finishing well back of her eighth-ranked season best of 25.09 from Austin Grand Prix.
